PARK HILL, Oklahoma – Oklahoma Statehood: A Cherokee Perspective
reveals the struggles and ultimate triumphs experienced by the Cherokee
people over the last 100 years. This exhibit will run through April 19,
2008. The exhibit will be closed the month of January.
The main story of Oklahoma Statehood: A Cherokee Perspective focuses on the important legislation and political environment that led to Oklahoma Statehood. Learn about the important historical legislation including the Curtis Act, Dawes Commission, The State of Sequoyah Convention and more. See how the Cherokee people strive to reshape their economy, schools, courts and ultimately their whole Nation while they forged an indelible impression on Indian Territory as it moved into statehood. This exhibit was made possible by funding from the Oklahoma Centennial Commission and the Oklahoma State Legislature. The Cherokee Heritage Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Cherokee Heritage Center is closed the month of January.
