PARK HILL, OKLAHOMA – The Sixth Annual Cherokee Ancestor
Conference is scheduled to be held June 8 and 9, 2007, in the
Tsa La Gi Community Room, located at the Cherokee Nation
complex behind the Restaurant of the Cherokees on Hwy 62
south. The conference is sponsored by the Cherokee Heritage
Center.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Forum sessions will begin at 9:30 a.m. Forum speakers and their topics include: Gene Norris, CHC senior genealogist--"Cherokee Genealogy--Where Do I Start?" Roy Hamilton, Cherokee National Historical Society--“The Effect of Oklahoma Statehood on the Cherokee Nation.” Tom Mooney, CHC archivist--“Records of the Cherokee National Archives.” Ryan B. Mackey, Cherokee Nation Cultural Resource Center--“The Cherokee People – Their Traditions and Culture.” Marybelle Chase--“Records of the Cherokee Mounted Volunteers and Indian Home Guards.” William Welge, Oklahoma Historical Society senior archivist--“Little Used Records of Cherokee Resources.” Conference attendees are invited to a reception at the CHC on Friday evening, where they will have an opportunity to meet the speakers. The conference will conclude Saturday with a question and answer session. Door prizes will be given between sessions. Pre-conference registration fees are $60 for CNHS members and $75 for non-members. These fees will increase to $80 and $95 respectively after May 18.
