“These teams have brought a lot of pride and attention to our school,” said Gina Stanley, Sequoyah Superintendent. “There are some great leaders on these teams and we are proud of what they have accomplished this year and during their careers at Sequoyah. These kids will do a lot of great things, both on and off the court.” The teams will head for Oklahoma City on Wednesday, March 7 with a pep assembly send off in the school gymnasium at 2 p.m. followed by a parade through Tahlequah escorted by the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service. The parade will loop by the Cherokee Nation complex, travel down Muskogee Avenue, and pass by Hastings Medical Center before departing for Oklahoma City. State tournament play will begin for the Sequoyah boys at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 8 against Lindsay High School at Choctaw. The girls, who are entering the tournament as the number one seed, will play Prague at 7 p.m. in the State Fair Arena. For those unable to travel to Oklahoma City, the games will be broadcast in Cherokee on KTLQ 1350 AM and in English on KEOK 102.1 FM, and streamed on the web to the Cherokee Nation's, live events path. In addition, visitors to the Cherokee Nation complex and the Stilwell and Sallisaw health clinics can watch the game on Cherokee Nation Television. |
