TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Cherokee citizens in District 1 and District 2
will have two new representatives during the next term as two Tribal
Council seats were filled on Saturday, July 28, in Cherokee Nation’s
run-off election.
In the Saturday run-off, District 1 (Cherokee County) Tina Glory Jordan of Hulbert defeated incumbent Audra Smoke Conner by a vote of 993 to 581 to take over the Seat 2 spot. In the race for the District 2 (Adair County), Seat 2, Jodie Fishinghawk of Stilwell unseated incumbent Jackie Bob Martin of Stilwell with a vote of 899 to 503. The general election was held on June 23, where the Principal Chief, Deputy Principal Chief and fifteen out of seventeen Council seats were decided. Fishinghawk and Jordan will join the other Tribal Council members who were elected in June, including: District 1 (Cherokee County), Seat 1, Bill John Baker Cherokee Nation’s inaugural ceremony for all elected officials will take place on Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at 9 a.m. on the Cherokee Nation Courthouse Square.
