TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation will be conducting
the first cancer summit next month to announce the recently developed
Cherokee Nation Comprehensive Cancer Control plan. The plan will cover
goals, objectives, and strategies to prevent and control cancer among
citizens and residents of the Cherokee Nation.
Topics to be discussed at the summit include prevention, early detection, quality of life, survivorship and topics associated with cancer control. “The burden of cancer is growing among the population of American Indians. The Cancer Summit will be held on Friday, October 20th at the OU Tulsa Schusterman Conference Center located at 41st and Yale. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the program beginning at 9 a.m. The summit is open to health professionals, medical providers, community leaders and cancer survivors. There is no charge for this summit and it is open to the public. However, space is limited to the first 200 registrants.
