TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – Michelle Locust of Tahlequah was selected
as the new Miss Cherokee and will serve as a goodwill ambassador for the
tribe promoting the values, culture and heritage of the Cherokee people.
Lora Miller of Tahlequah was selected as first-runner up and Vanessa
John of Tahlequah was awarded second runner-up. The Cherokee Nation
recently held the Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition in conjunction
with the 54th Annual Cherokee National Holiday.
According to Locust motivation is vital to success and credits her
mother for instilling a desire to excel within her.
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, you can be anything you want to
be,” Locust said. “While on your journey to reaching goals motivation,
motivation and motivation is the key.”
The Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition is held annually and seeks to
encourage young Cherokee women to look toward the future by acting a
strong leader and role model for the Cherokee people and hold tight to
their heritage.
