TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – Sequoyah School, as part of their ongoing
efforts to locate and identify children with disabilities, invites the
parents of special needs children to contact the school for educational
assistance. All children, birth to age 21, are eligible to receive
education and special services under Federal law.
Sequoyah Schools, a boarding school for Native American students, originated in 1871 as an orphan asylum to take care of many orphans who came out of the Civil War. It has since served as the Sequoyah Orphan Training School and the Sequoyah Vocational School. In November 1985, the Cherokee Nation resumed the operation of the school, now known as Sequoyah Schools. It is regionally and state accredited for grades 7-12 and has become the school of choice for more than 400 students every year. Anyone who knows of a special needs child who may be eligible for this service is encouraged to contact Shirley Webb, special service coordinator at Sequoyah Schools, by calling 918-453-5185. All information shared will be kept confidential. |
