PARK HILL, OKLAHOMA – For seven years, Cherokee artists have been
creating artwork for certificates used by the Cherokee National
Historical Society, Inc. The society is calling for entries to the 2008
competition. The deadline for entries is January 1, 2007. Cherokee
artists whose designs are selected will receive $100.
The competitors, all Cherokee artists, are asked to create a unique certificate for the historical society members using one of the seven clans as the theme. Each year for seven years a different theme is used. This tradition is being carried on today as the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc. seeks seven different certificate art work designs from artists who are citizens of a federally recognized Cherokee tribe or band. Each submitted design must choose only one clan to represent (Long Hair, Paint, Deer, Wolf, Wild Potato, Blue, or Bird). You can submit as many entries as you like. There will be seven $100 prizes given to the selected seven different certificates. The Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc. will have the rights to use the image for the historical society certificates and advertising for a period of one year starting in 2008. Artist biographies may be included with the certificate to promote the winning artists during the year their design is used. All artwork must be in black and white. The artwork must be done as a two inch box border. The Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc. will insert certificate information in the center of the box border in an area approximately 6 ½ wide x 3 ¾ height. Judging will include examining clarity of subject matter, artistic quality and function for the certificate. The black and white artwork designs must be received at the Cherokee Heritage Center by 5 p.m. on January 1, 2007. Winners will be announced by February 1, 2007. You can pick up an official entry form at the Cherokee Heritage Center Museum. Artwork submissions may be mailed to P.O. Box 515, Tahlequah, Oklahoma 74465.
