TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - For the fourth consecutive year, the Sequoyah
boys’ cross-country team recently won the Oklahoma state championship
title. This year marks a total of nine times the team has won the honor.
The teams will celebrate with a victory powwow on Friday, December 8 at
6 p.m.
“Great runners are beginning to become a tradition for Sequoyah,” said Gina Stanley, Sequoyah Schools superintendent. “We are very proud of them for adding another state championship to Sequoyah’s record. They are very deserving of it and have worked hard to achieve it.” The victory powwow will be held in the Sequoyah gymnasium and will begin with dinner at 4:30 p.m. followed by dancing at 6 p.m. Rogan Noble will serve as the master of ceremonies at the event and members of the school’s Honoring Our People’s Existence (H.O.P.E.) Club will lead the dancing. Chris Chanate, cross-country team manager, is organizing the victory powwow and dinner. “Chris has such a big heart,” Stanley said. “This is a lot for a student to take on, but he can do it. He has supported his team all the way up to earning the title, now he’s just going to make sure they get the celebration they deserve.” For more information on the Sequoyah High School cross-country program or the celebration powwow, call Coach Sam Horsechief, phone: 918-456-2822 or Chanate, 918-453-5400. |
