JAY, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation has started a new program
to get children to strive for no cavities in Delaware County.
“The ‘No Cavity Club’ recognizes young patients that have a cavity free
dental exam,” said Terrie Barnes of the Cherokee Nation Sam Hider
Community Dental Clinic in Jay.
The program encourages children to brush their teeth for two minutes
twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and see their dentist once a year.
“Although all children coming in for a dental exam receive a package
with toothbrush, toothpaste, stickers and a small toy, the children with
a ‘No Cavity Club’ membership are awarded a certificate, their picture
on the ‘No Cavity Club’ bulletin board and a special prize,” Barnes said.
Each month one ‘No Cavity Club’ member is randomly selected and their
picture is placed in the local newspaper.
