Topics to be addressed include tourism infrastructure, tourism experiences, market segments and public/private synergy and feasibility.
The conference, entitled “Working Conference on Cultural Tourism Development,” is one in a series of sessions to brainstorm ideas with large and diverse groups of tourism professionals to increase regional and state tourism.
“Participants’ input and support will provide the diversity of perspectives needed to strengthen the planning process. This initiative is also an invaluable opportunity to exchange ideas and learn how we can work together to help grow cultural tourism in Oklahoma,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation.
The previous session dealt with numerous issues surrounding cultural tourism in Oklahoma, including what groups should manage a tourism plan, what organizations lead tourism in different regions in the state, and how the Cherokee Nation can best work with different businesses, governments and organizations to grow tourism in northeastern Oklahoma.
Subsequent meetings will be held on July 3, August 7 and September 4, all Mondays, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., at locations to be announced later. Members of the press working and writing for the state’s tourism industry as well as representatives from local, state, and national businesses and governments are invited to participate in these meetings.
A comprehensive Cherokee Nation Cultural Tourism Plan will result from this series of meetings and should be finished by September, 2006. The plan will be implemented in phases beginning in 2007.
