TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Cherokee Nation staff are planning events to help educate women about the importance of good health.During National Women’s Health Week, May 15-19, the Cherokee Nation health clinics will host events to encourage women to take a proactive and preventive approach to their health.
“This gives us an opportunity to honor women and encourage them to value their health,” said Kym Cravatt, director of Cherokee Nation cancer programs.
Cherokee Nation Cancer Programs will host a variety of community events throughout the week.
“There will be a women’s health fair hosted by the Cherokee Nation Muskogee Clinic on Tuesday, May 16 at Arrowhead Mall,” Cravatt said. “The fair will last from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will consist of informational materials, health screenings and various other activities.”
Also on Tuesday the Sam Hider Jay Community Clinic will host a women’s health fair at the Jay Community Center from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
“They will be having health screenings, and plenty of health educational materials to hand out,” Cravatt said.
On Wednesday, May 17, at the AMO Salina Community Clinic will be hosting a women’s health walk, guest speaker and women’s health educational materials from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the clinic.
On Friday, May 19, the Nowata Primary Care Clinic will host the first annual women’s healthy lifestyle fair at the Cherokee Community Center in South Coffeyville from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
“We are encouraging all females to educate themselves about cancer screening, heart disease, diabetes and other general health issues,” Cravatt said.
