Cherokee National Youth Choir 2006
Cherokee Sunday Morning features songs from the Cherokee hymn book sung in the beautiful Cherokee language. With the album, the choir takes the listener on a spiritual journey, recreating the sounds of services in little country churches throughout the Cherokee Nation, and they welcome their audience to “please join in and add your voice to the choir as we rejoice on a beautiful Cherokee Sunday Morning.”

The choir is made up of Cherokee youth from across the Cherokee Nation, and help further a cultural renaissance through their music and language skills. Over the period of their existence, the choir has diligently striven to maintain its community-focused efforts by involving Cherokee youth from many local areas to participate. Since its creation, the Cherokee National Youth Choir has developed a national presence, fortifying its position as the preeminent native language youth choir in America.

The Native American Music Awards program has been acclaimed for its professionalism and production qualities in such national media outlets as USA Today, CNN, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times. Artists are recognized and honored for their outstanding music contributions in a diverse range of 30 traditional and contemporary music categories. Previous honorees have included Crystal Gayle, Bill Miller, Joanne Shenandoah, R. Carlos Nakai, Robert Mirabal, Indigenous, Litefoot, Robbie Robertson, Rita Coolidge, Tom Bee, John Trudell, the Navajo Codetalkers (Living Legend), the late Jimi Hendrix and Hank Williams. This year, dozens of national recordings were submitted for nomination consideration. Nominee submissions were then made by the Native American Music Awards (NAMMYS) Advisory/Industry membership. Visit the Native American Music Awards site for the 2006 Nominees list.
