TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – In celebration of National EMS Week May 15-19, Cherokee Nation EMS will be offering a free adult CPR class for adults 18 and older on Wednesday, May 17, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Cherokee Nation EMS facility, located at the tribal complex south of Tahlequah.According to the American Heart Association, new guidelines now recommend how lay rescuers and emergency health care providers should resuscitate victims of cardiovascular emergencies.
“This CPR class will emphasize that high-quality CPR, particularly effective chest compressions, can contributes significantly to the successful resuscitation of patients in critical need,” said Jimmy Summerlin of Cherokee Nation EMS. “Studies show that effective chest compressions create more blood flow through the heart to the rest of the body, buying a few minutes until defibrillation can be attempted or the heart can pump blood on its own.”
There is no cost to attend and class size is limited to the first 40 registrants. To register, contact Summerlin at 453-5025. For more information on Cherokee Nation EMS Training program, visit Cherokee Health Services Information online or call 918-458-5403, and view the EMS Training Calendar
