TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service recently took the lead in a community cleanup effort in the community of Cherry Tree, located near Stilwell, overseeing several youth in the effort.
Cherokee Nation Marshal and DARE representative Franky Dreadfulwater led the cleanup team of young people, which was brought to the attention of the Marshal Service by a local parent, who also helped recruit area teens to take part.
Its great to see the kids trying to do something positive for their neighborhood, said Dreadfulwater. Id like to try and do more projects like this in the summer.
Lieutenant Dreadfulwater and six teenagers who live in the Cherry Tree community painted over graffiti that covered several buildings in the area.
The young volunteers were asked why they chose to participate in the project. Their answer was simple. We want our neighborhood to look better.
The Marshal Service would like to thank all those involved in the cleanup and state that they look forward to more projects in the future. For more information about the DARE program, contact Franky Dreadfulwater, phone: 918-453-5000 or by e-mail.
