Don Garvin, Cherokee Nation District 4 Tribal Councilor, presented the check to Gene Wallace, Muskogee County Commissioner for District 1, who accepted the donation on behalf of the county.
“This check represents a commitment of Cherokee Nation to date of more than $4 million in Muskogee County. With Don’s cooperation, we have received approximately $500,000 in road money,” said Wallace. “Participation with Cherokee Nation in Muskogee County is invaluable. Our county could never improve without Cherokee Nation and Councilor Garvin. The Cherokee population in Muskogee County is extremely grateful for the tribe’s involvement,” he added.
Over 35 miles of new roads have been built in the last four years as a result of Cherokee Nation funding to Muskogee County, according to Wallace.
Traffic in Muskogee County is increasing rapidly on roads designed for 1930s traffic flow. New business development and residential population growth have led to increasing numbers of miles driven daily in Muskogee County.
“Cherokee Nation District 4 is a large district stretching from Wagoner to McIntosh counties. People we help in the district are always very appreciative. We are glad to partner with and be part of the Muskogee County Commissioners’ work,” said Garvin.
Additional road projects are currently in progress in Muskogee County as well.
