Businesses, private organizations and public organizations are invited to participate in the parade. There will be six categories: float, vehicle, marching band/other marching unit, business/church, civic organization, and Cherokee Nation employee group entry.
Awards will be presented for first, second and third place in each category. An additional ward will be presented to the best overall. Entries should emphasize the 2006 Holiday theme “The Cherokee Nation Continues in Full Force and Effect.”
The deadline to register is Friday, August 25 at 6 p.m. No entry fee is required. Parade entry forms can be picked up at the Cherokee Nation Career Services Department.
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in honor of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. This year’s theme is in commemoration of the Act of 1906, which provided that the tribal constitutional governments of the Five Tribes should continue in “full force and effect,” thus ensuring continuous tribal sovereignty.
