TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – Ladies and gentleman, start your engines and cruise into the 5th Annual Car and Bike Show at the 54th Annual Cherokee National Holiday on Saturday, September 2.
The first 150 registrants will receive a dash plaque and goody bag. Awards will be presented to 1st and 2nd place winners in each of the 51 categories. 15 special awards will also be presented. In addition, there will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day.
Contestants who pre-register on or before September 1 will pay a $10 entry fee. The fee will increase to $15 on the day of the car show. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon.
According to Justin Godwin, car show coordinator, the goal of the car and bike show is to add variety to the number of activities that take place during the Cherokee National Holiday.
“This will be the fifth year for the Car and Bike Show,” said Godwin. “We were surprised last year. Although, gas prices were as high as $3.00 per gallon we had 143 entries. One entry came all the way from Houston, Texas.”
The 2nd Annual Open Header Cruise Night will take place after the car on Saturday, September 2. The cruise lineup will begin at 6 p.m. at the Car and Bike Show grounds and participants will be police escorted to downtown Tahlequah where the roar of the cars will be heard all evening long.
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in honor of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. This year’s theme is “The Cherokee Nation Continues in Full Force and Effect” in commemoration of the Act of 1906, which provided that the tribal constitutional governments of the Five Tribes should continue in “full force and effect,” thus ensuring continuous tribal sovereignty.
