Wichita, Kansas – Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith, and Jack Baker and Taylor Keen, two new At-Large Tribal Councilors for the Cherokee Nation, will visit the Mid-American All Indian Center in Wichita, Kansas, on Saturday, August 12, at 2 p.m. to meet Cherokee citizens and other members of the public. Chief Smith will also give a talk entitled “Why Have a Cherokee Nation,” after which he and the two councilors will answer questions from members of the audience.

The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council approved the nominations of Keen, of Tulsa, and Baker, of Oklahoma City, to represent Cherokee Nation citizens residing outside the tribe’s 14-county jurisdictional area during its July council meeting. The positions were mandated by the tribe’s new constitution approved by the Cherokee Nation’s highest court in June.

The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be provided. The Mid-American All Indian Center is located at 650 North Seneca in Wichita. For additional information about the meeting, call 918-453-3809.
