The Cherokee Nation Youth Choir will be the opening act on Friday, Sept. 1st. This year’s host group will be Visionary from Tahlequah.
According to event coordinator Janey Carey, the gospel singing becomes more popular each year.
“Singers come from all over to take part and listen to the singing,” said Carey. “We invite everyone to come and enjoy all of the musicians.”
Sunday morning worship will be held on Sunday, Sept. 3rh in the Sequoyah High School Chapel at 10 a.m. Vern Charlotte Ministries will be conducting the service.
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in honor of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. This year’s theme is in commemoration of the Act of 1906, which provided that the tribal constitutional governments of the Five Tribes should continue in “full force and effect,” thus ensuring continuous tribal sovereignty.
