TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation will host three softball tournaments in conjunction with the 54th Annual Cherokee National Holiday, September 3 – 5, in Tahlequah. Teams interested in entering the Co-ed or Fast-Pitch tournaments must enter by Friday, August 11. The deadline to enter the Slow-Pitch tournament is Friday, August 25.

According to event coordinator George Roach the softball tournaments are very competitive.
“We expect to recruit teams from all over the United States,” said Roach. “Each year, the tournament has grown, last year we had teams as far away as California, Florida and South Dakota.”
Teams are encouraged to register early as space is limited.
The Cherokee National Holiday has been held since 1953 in honor of the signing of the 1839 Cherokee Constitution. This year’s theme is in commemoration of the Act of 1906, which provided that the tribal constitutional governments of the Five Tribes should continue in “full force and effect,” thus ensuring continuous tribal sovereignty.
