TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and a Cherokee Nation EMS instructor were recently honored with national recognition at the National Native American EMS Association Training & Educational Conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Four lead instructors and three co-instructors were on hand to accept the EMS Agency Award on behalf of Cherokee Nation EMS.

“They were nominated by several people who had taken previous training courses at our facility,” said Linda Squirrel, special projects coordinator for Cherokee Nation EMS. “This is quite an honor to be recognized throughout the nation as the top tribal training program.”
Trainers being acknowledged with his award from Cherokee Nation were, Bill Humphrey, Jimmy Summerlin, Julie Scott, Tracy Glory, Mark Bighorse, Yvonne Johnson, Jess French and David Beaver.
Currently there are 80 tribal ambulance services throughout the United States that are recognized by the National Native American EMS Association.
In addition to the group award, instructor Tracy Glory was also recognized with the EMS Instructor of the Year Award.
Glory began his career at Cherokee Nation EMS as a basic emergency medical technician working his way up to a critical care paramedic before becoming an advanced instructor.
“It was really an honor to receive this award. Instructors throughout the national realm deserve recognition for their hard work and long hours of dedication to the emergency medical field,” said Glory. “A special thanks needs to go to Dionne Harjo, Oklahoma Area Consultant CHR-EMS & Health Education, for her hard work and the representation that she provides at the Oklahoma City Area IHS office for the EMS and CHR fields.”
