SALLISAW, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation invites Cherokee citizens and other members of the area community to gain self-confidence while continuing their education by participating in Cherokee Nation Adult Education Classes.

Classes cover basic skills instruction, including literacy, math and writing as well as GED preparation and assistance. Students work at their own pace through the lessons and will have the assistance of qualified instructors and staff members throughout the class. In addition, students can arrange to take the GED test if they desire. The test fee is $40 and is waived for Cherokee Nation tribal citizens.

Cherokee Nation Adult Education classes began in the mid-1970s and have served several hundred students each year since their beginning. Childcare services are offered for those who qualify.

Classes in the Sequoyah County area will be offered Tuesday evenings from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday mornings from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the Cherokee Nation Career Services Field Office at 1504 West Chickasaw in Sallisaw, next to the Workforce Oklahoma office. There is no cost to attend.

To sign up for a class or to receive more information, contact the Cherokee Nation Adult Literacy staff, phone: 918-776-0416 or 918-458-0484.
