TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Members of the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service have rescheduled their Polar Bear Plunge for Saturday, February 25, at 11 a.m. at the Arrowhead-Thunderbird Resort on the Illinois River in Tahlequah.

The Polar Bear Plunge, sponsored by the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and Cherokee County Special Olympics, has become a tradition with the marshals and other employees of the Nation, who annually ask friends, family and coworkers to sponsor them as they jump into the frigid February waters to benefit Special Olympics Oklahoma.

All funds raised by participants are donated to Special Olympics to promote its mission of providing people with intellectual disabilities opportunities to achieve goals, primarily through athletic competitions.

The Marshal Service wishes to invite anyone who enjoys a chilling challenge to come dive in with them. Participants should ask family, friends and businesses to sponsor them as a way to raise money for the local program. No pledge amount is too small. Registration for this event begins at 10 a.m.

For more information on the Polar Bear Plunge, contact Lori Frank, Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, phone: 918-207-3806. Those who are unable to participate but wish to donate may call 888-456-9224 to make a pledge to Special Olympics Oklahoma.
