"CNE is now offering OU, OSU and
NSU baseball caps written in the Cherokee language."

CATOOSA, OKLAHOMA - In an effort to further promote the
Cherokee language, Cherokee Nation Enterprises created baseball
caps depicting the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State
University and Northeastern State University logos written
in Cherokee.
As an entity of the Cherokee Nation, CNE strives to help advance
Cherokee culture, with language preservation being a key priority.
By developing baseball caps with Cherokee writing, CNE is providing
collegiate fans with the opportunity to show support for their favorite
team. Furthermore, people unfamiliar with the Cherokee language will now
be exposed to it in a creative and original way.
“Because of the unique history we share with the Cherokee Nation,
Northeastern State University is particularly supportive of efforts to
revitalize the Cherokee language,” said Dr. Larry Williams, NSU
President. “Our Cherokee language program is believed to be the only
four-year native language degree program in the nation, and was
established to preserve the Cherokee language and provide our students
with a foundation in Cherokee history and culture. Translating NSU into
Cherokee in a practical, everyday format is one more way of encouraging
our community to use the language in ways that pay tribute to our common
roots and history."
“It only makes sense for the Cherokee Nation to encourage Cherokee
language awareness through sports,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of
the Cherokee Nation. “Cherokees are traditionally huge sports fans, so
putting our favorite team names in Cherokee on baseball caps is a
win-win. Loyal fans can support their teams and proudly display the
Cherokee language at the same time.”
The OU hats are available in crimson and cream with Sooners written on
the back, OSU caps come in black and orange with Cowboys written on the
back and NSU caps come in green and white with NSU written on the back.
