TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation Small Business Assistance Center will be taking applications for the Micro-Enterprise Youth Fund.The program is available to Native American youth between the ages of 15-25 who are interested in starting a business. Loan amounts range from $100 to $25,000 dollars with the loan term not to exceed 10 years.
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith said that he is pleased the Cherokee Nation is able to provide these types of opportunities for young Native Americans, as these programs are important to the success of the Cherokee people.
“One of our major initiatives is to create jobs and help people with training so they can earn the good jobs they would like or the entrepreneurial skills to start their own businesses,” said Smith. “The ultimate goal of this vision is to improve our quality of life and enjoy to its fullest each moment that the Creator has generously given us.”
The Micro-Enterprise Youth Fund Program will include assistance on a variety of business related topics and is designed to ensure the success of youth businesses. One of the biggest incentives of the program is the low interest rate offered to participants.
Applicants must be between the ages of 15-25, be a citizen of a federally recognized Indian tribe, have a low to moderate household income and live within the 14 county jurisdiction of the Cherokee Nation. All applicants under the age of 18 must have an adult co-signer.
