TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation is hosting the Circle of Nations Native American Cancer Support Group, which is holding a fund-raiser Saturday, April 15, from 6 to 10 p.m. in the old ballroom behind the Restaurant of the Cherokees in the Cherokee Tribal Complex south of Tahlequah. Members of the public are invited to attend.The fund-raiser will offer a spaghetti dinner for $5, and gospel singing will be featured. The gospel group Providence as well as artists Sampson Leach and Alan McBride, among others, will perform. Donations will be gratefully accepted but are not required. Door prizes will also be given away.
The Circle of Nations Native American Cancer Support Group benefits all survivors of cancer in the Cherokee Nation’s 14-county tribal jurisdictional area. The group offers counseling and talking circles to those with cancer, cancer survivors and their spouses and other family members. Many resources are available to survivors as well as other interested parties, including monthly meetings featuring guest speakers; educational training; conferences, both in and out of state; and travel scholarships for out-of-state conferences.
