"I'm glad I kept with it," Little said of her commitment to the SHS cross-country team. "I thought I would go to college to play softball."
Sam Horsechief, SHS cross-county coach, added that while Little was a good softball player, with the same dedication, she could be an equally good runner.
"I'm extremely proud of her," Horsechief said. "I think she's going to do real well up there, just concentrating on one sport."
Little, 18, of Tahlequah, is the daughter of Ellis and Nancy Little and the granddaughter of Marilyn and Joe Christie and the late Terry "Jim" Gourd, of Tahlequah and the late Terry and Ida Mae Little of Seminole, Okla. She was named a Muskogee Phoenix Academic All Star in 2004 and is an Achievement Academy All-American scholar. She is active in Honoring Our People's Existence (HOPE) club, National Honor Society, and Oklahoma Indian Honor Society. She is also the salutatorian of her class.
Little plans to major in physical therapy.
