Tulsan Rick Horton and his brother Frank White of McPherson, Kansas, formed Cancer Sucks in 1998 as a living memorial to their mother, Donna White, who died from cancer two years earlier. Horton said people might raise their eyebrows at the name, but anyone who has gone through losing a loved one to cancer knows that "it sucks."

Horton said Cancer Sucks was established to follow their mother's lead in raising money for cancer research. Last year, Horton and his Cancer Sucks volunteers raised $25,000 for cancer research. Much of that amount, $10,000, was raised during the first Handlebars and Hot Rods Poker Run, which was donated to the Cancer Treatment Research Foundation.

"Cancer Sucks is truly about helping cancer patients. Their heart is in the right place," said Talisha Nichols, corporate promotions manager for Cherokee Casino and Resort. "We have formed a strong partnership with Cancer Sucks. We support them and they support us."
