TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation will begin accepting applications from tribal youth for summer employment on March 28."The Supplemental Youth Employment Program enables youth to get hands-on training," said Stephanie Issacs, manager of Career Services at Cherokee Nation. "Last year we placed young people in jobs all over the (Cherokee Nation’s) 14-county jurisdiction."
Program participants are given opportunities to work in a variety of fields within the Cherokee Nation and other private and non-profit organizations. Cherokee Nation, Northeastern State University, and local school systems, are just a few of the entities that will employ accepted applicants. Accepted applicants will be employed during the months of June and July.
"Some (Cherokee Nation) employees got started here through one of these programs," Issacs said.
Applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 21, a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe, and reside in the Cherokee Nation’s 14-county jurisdictional area. The Cherokee Nation youth employment program applicants must also meet U.S. Department of Labor guidelines.
A parent or guardian must accompany applicants 17 years of age or under during the application process. Applications for the Summer Youth Employment Program will only be accepted in person March 28 through May 20. To apply, visit the Cherokee Nation Career Services office inside the Cherokee Nation complex, 3.5 miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62.
