STILWELL, OKLAHOMA - Cherokee Nation will be promoting healthy activities in Adair County with a free family skate night on March 17 and a School Walk for Diabetes on March 30. Both events are sponsored by Cherokee Nation Healthy Nation and the Stilwell Clinic."We love to provide physical fitness opportunities to our community members," said Karen Rabon, public health educator for the Stilwell clinic.
The skate event will be held at the Rolling Wheels Skating Rink on Thursday, March 17, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and is free for youth and their families who live in Adair County.
"The skating rink can allow for about 100 skaters," Rabon said. "We will have fun games, healthy snacks and health information, along with several good prizes."
Cherokee Nation Healthy Nation Program will also be sponsoring a School Walk for Diabetes on Wednesday, March 30 at 10 a.m.
"Each school is responsible for raising their own funds for this walk," Rabon said. "With all proceeds going to benefit the American Diabetes Association."
Area schools in Adair County, along with parents and community members, will gather at Stilwell Middle School at 10 a.m. for the walk.
"Last year, over 400 students in Adair County participated and raised over $4,000 for the American Diabetes Association," said Rabon.
These physical activities for communities are sponsored by Cherokee Nation Healthy Nation and the Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center.
