TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Twenty-seven teams of youngsters from area elementary schools recently gathered together to test their Cherokee knowledge in the annual Cherokee Challenge Bowl sponsored by the Cherokee Nation.

"The competition focused on content related to Cherokee history, culture, government and language," said Michael Smith, with the Cherokee Nation education department.
The Osage Cherokees team from Osage Elementary School in Pryor, OK won the top spot in the third though fifth grade division. First place team members are Brooke Million, Katie Chupp, Cody Moore, Brailey Gleen, and Tayler Brooner. The second place Gore A-ni-wa-ya team members from Gore Elementary in Gore, Okla. are Lane Holcomb, Alex Powell, Cherokee Tenario, Lauren Cox and Logan Hulse. Third place Maryetta a-ni-da-ki-si team members from Maryetta Elementary in Stilwell are Mariah Hooper, Brittany Hamilton, Brandon Kent, Dillon Davidson and Peyton Ragsdale.
Winners will receive prizes at the awards ceremony on April 14 at the Southern Hills Marriott Hotel in Tulsa.
