TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - A pictorial recap of the 2003-2004 basketball season at Sequoyah High School (SHS) has been transformed from a few good pictures in an archive to an outstanding keepsake. The book titled "The Long Road" is on sale now to help raise money for the 2004-05 basketball teams as they head to the state tournament.
The artwork for the cover of the book, "The Long Road" was designed by Preston Moore, a SHS student and member of the 2003-04 boys’ basketball team. ![]()
"With the help and cooperation of the Sequoyah coaches and staff, this book has evolved into a comprehensive review of the 2003-2004 boys and girls basketball season, complete with photos, statistics, coaches commentary, and coverage of the state tournament," said Bryan Pollard, author of the book and assistant editor of the Cherokee Phoenix.
"The book is a must-have for any SHS fan, parent or student," said Gina Stanley, SHS superintendent. "We are very proud of these kids and that comes across in this publication."
"I've been so inspired by Sequoyah's players, coaches and fans," Pollard said. "The excitement and pride that they bring to the game is contagious and it makes me proud to be a part of it in some small way. This book is for them."
In 2003-04, the SHS girls' basketball team won first place in their district, but was eliminated in the area tournament. The boys won their district, region and area before being eliminated in the first round of the state tournament.
"The Long Road" is on sale for $16 and can be purchased at the Sequoyah High School store or by calling Laura Henson, phone: 918-456-0631 (ext.239) or 888-467-4746 (ext239).
