TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Sequoyah High School (SHS) will host a football punt, pass and kick contest, sponsored by the National Football League (NFL) on Wednesday, June 29 at 9 a.m. The contest is open to boys and girls ages 8-15. The fee to enter the contest is $20."This is a regional competition," said Brent Scott, SHS football coach. "The results are sent into the NFL and the winners get to move on to the next round of competition."
The top scorer in each age division for boys and girls will advance to the sectional competition. The top five first-place scorers in each age group of the sectional competition will advance to the team championship competition.
Scott expects the team championship competition to be held in Dallas, Texas or Kansas City, Kan., the home stadiums of NFL teams closest to the Tahlequah area. The winners of that competition will receive an all-expense paid trip to the Super Bowl in January 2006.
Participants will need to bring a birth certificate to the competition to prove their age. Age categories are determined by the age the participant will be on December 31, 2005. For more information, contact Brent Scott, phone: 918-456-0631.
