TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Several health professionals working for the Cherokee Nation and Indian Health Services were recently acknowledged by Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation at a social held in their honor at Adam’s Corner Village at the Cherokee Heritage Center.

"Our provider visit totals for fiscal year 2004 were 250,000," said Gloria Grim, MD, medical director for Cherokee Nation. "This number continues to grow every year, which goes to show how Cherokee Nation Health Services surpasses its commitment in providing exceptional patient care to Cherokee citizens."
Chief Smith presented longevity acknowledgements to physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners.
"Too often our dedicated health professionals are not thanked for their services," Smith said. "This is one small way we can show them our appreciation."
The following staff received awards for longevity. Tracy Thompson, DO, medical director for Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center, received an award for 10 years of service. Kyle Catron, DDS, for the Redbird Smith Health Center, received an award for 11 years of service. Melissa Horn, ARNP, Redbird Smith Health Center, received an award for 14years of service.
A special recognition was presented to James Lewis, MD, chief of pediatrics for Hastings Indian Medical Center.
"In commemoration of your outstanding service for the past 30 years to Cherokee children and families, Cherokee Nation would like to present this Award of Appreciation to you," Smith said.
