TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Auto enthusiasts are invited to start their engines and check out the classic wheels at the Cherokee National Holiday Car and Bike Show on Saturday, September 3. The car and bike show will be held on the east grounds of the Cherokee Nation complex, located 3.5 miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62.

"This will be the fourth year for the car and bike show," said Justin Godwin, car and bike show coordinator. "We have doubled our categories since we started in 2002. Currently, we are working with the Route 66 Chapter, Harley Owners Group (HOG) in Tulsa, OK and have added several motorcycle classes this year and hope to get a good attendance of bikes. Also, there will be things for the kids. Last year we created a model car class for children and adults, and the Little Miss Car and Bike Show and Little Johnny Hotrod pageants have always been a success. We hope to add different activities each year and hope to continue to beat our past attendances."

Contestants, who pre-register for the car and bike show before August 1, will pay an entry fee of $10. The fee increases to $15 after August 1. Registration for the car and bike show is from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, September 3. The first 200 entries will receive a dash plaque and goody bag. The Cherokee Nation will present 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards to the winners in each class. There are 52 category classes and special prizes will be given in 15 categories, including Principal Chief, Deputy Chief, Mayor and Chief of Police Choice Awards. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day.

Car and bike show coordinators have added an Open Header Cruise on Saturday, September 3. An Open Header Cruise is a cruise for cars without exhaust systems. Open headers will be allowed from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. only. However, they can cruise all night. There will be no costs or entry fees for the cruise. Interested participants are encouraged to participate in the cruise. Lineup will begin at 6 p.m. at the car and bike show site. At 6:30 p.m. participants will be escorted by local police to downtown Tahlequah and will officially start the cruise at 7 p.m.

"I know several people have asked me for an open header cruise," Godwin said. "I hope we get good participation this year, which hopefully will develop into something bigger in the future. Mayor Ken Purdy and Chief of Police Steve Farmer have been very cooperative and I value their partnership with the Cherokee National Holiday Car and Bike Show. The car and bike show committee hopes to add more activities each year so that we can give a little something back to Tahlequah."
