“We hope to recruit teams from all over the United States,” said George Roach, tournament director. “Each year, the tournament has been growing, last year we had teams from as far away as California, Florida and South Dakota.”
All but four team players must have Certificate Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) cards. Entry fee is $175.00 per team. The entry fee deadline is August 19 at 7 p.m. The first teams to pay their entry fees will be entered into the competition. The Cherokee Nation will award team plaques to the top four teams in both divisions and jackets to first place winner, hooded sweatshirts to second place winners, sweatshirts to third place winners and t-shirts to fourth place winners.
A coaches meeting and team drawing will be held August 22, at 7 p.m. in the Tribal Council Chambers at the Cherokee Nation Complex in Tahlequah, Okla. for the teams who meet the entry deadline.
The Cherokee Nation celebrates its National Holiday every year over Labor Day weekend, in observance of the signing of the Cherokee Nation constitution. This year’s Holiday theme, “Celebrating the Great State of Sequoyah,” commemorates Indian Territory and the state that almost was.
