TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council recently appointed Rick Doherty and Jim Briggs as Cherokee Nation election commissioners. The two will serve as election commissioners for the 2007 Cherokee Nation elections.

Doherty, of Stilwell, is a self-employed licensed bail bondsman and a 1979 graduate of Stilwell High School. He is a Cherokee Nation tribal citizen, past member of the Adair County Kiwanas, member of Stilwell United Methodist Church and a volunteer for the Adair County Food Pantry.
Briggs, of Locust Grove, is an attorney and is currently the vice-president of Frisco Title Corporation in Tulsa. He is a past chairman of the Cherokee Nation Tax Commission and holds degrees from Northeastern State University and the University of Tulsa. He is a Cherokee Nation tribal citizen and has been married to wife, Sally, for 27 years.
The two new commissioners join Rita Bunch and Kyle Hoskins who were appointed by Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chad Smith. Together, the four, will choose one more commissioner to fill the last remaining opening on the election commission.
