TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Sequoyah High School (SHS) will crown the 2004-05 basketball royalty this Friday, January 21. The basketball king and queen will be crowned at 6 p.m. immediately preceding the basketball game against Wright Christian. Due to the large crowds that are expected, the game will be held at the Briggs School gym."This time next year we will have a wonderful facility to host basketball games in," said Gina Stanley, SHS superintendent. "We’re lucky in the fact that we have a very loyal fan base and a large athletic following. Having too many fans is a great problem to have."
All of the Sequoyah High School seniors who play basketball are eligible for the title of king and queen. The team votes and the winners are not unveiled until the Homecoming coronation.
Senior girls who are running for queen are Bonita Carey of Hulbert: Kelsey Gill of Spavinaw; Ashley Green of Tahlequah; Lavena Jones-Reese of Dry Creek; Haley Larsen of Pryor; and Kandra Liles of Stilwell.
