TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation will host an elder resource fair on Thursday, February 24 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. to provide community elders with valuable information."I think it's important for our elders to learn about resources that are available to them so they can understand and be comfortable about making lifestyle changes due to aging,” said Wynema Bush, who is organizing the elder fair for the Cherokee Nation.
Agencies that will be presenting information at the fair include Traditional Home Care, Cherokee Nation Public Health Nursing, Cherokee Nation Elder Services, Tahlequah City Hospital, Wisdom Keepers, Department of Human Services, Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services, National Indian Council on Aging, Community Development for the Elders, Meals on Wheels, Ki Bois Area Transit System, the Cherokee Nation Office of Veterans Affairs, the Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation, and the Oklahoma State University Extension Office. The Beauty Technical School will also be providing free haircuts to elders who attend.
"I encourage elders and anyone who has a loved one in their life that is elderly to attend,” Bush said. "There will be a lot of good information and door prizes.”
The Cherokee Nation elder resource fair will be held in the Cherokee Nation Community Room located directly behind the Restaurant of the Cherokees, at the Cherokee Nation Complex, 3.5 miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62. For more information, call Wynema Bush, phone: 918-456-0671 (ext.2561).
