STILWELL, OKLAHOMA – The Cherokee Nation is inviting Cherokee citizens and other members of the area community to gain self-confidence while continuing your education by participating in the Cherokee Nation Adult Education Classes.The classes offer basic skills instruction, including literacy, math and writing as well as GED preparation and assistance. Students work at their own pace through the lessons and will have the assistance of qualified instructors and staff members throughout the class. In addition, students can arrange to take the GED test if desired. The fee for the test is $40 and is waived for Cherokee Nation citizens.
Cherokee Nation Adult Education classes began in the mid-1970s and have been serving several hundred students each year since its beginning. Child care services are offered for those that qualify.
Classes in the Adair County area are held each Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and each Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Stilwell Armory building, and each Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Adair County Jail. Classes are also held each Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Cherokee John F. Henderson Public Library in Westville. There is no cost to attend.
