PARK HILL, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Heritage Center is currently accepting applications for the Cherokee Humanities Course, previously known as the Cherokee Clemente Course. The course is scheduled to begin this fall and students will be asked to participate in fall, spring and summer sessions. Class will convene in the O-Si-Yo Training Room located behind the Restaurant of the Cherokees in Tahlequah, Okla.

The Cherokee Humanities Course is an interdisciplinary course designed to strengthen students’ fundamental grasp of Cherokee culture. Students have the opportunity to earn up to 9 hours of college credit from the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha in either History or American Indian Studies. Areas of consideration during the course may include architecture, music and dance, drama and film, mythology and history, literature - especially the Cherokee oral traditions - painting and sculpture, cosmology and philosophy, religion or spirituality.

The Cherokee Humanities Course was designed to provide college level academics to non-traditional college students who would not otherwise attend college due to monetary or racial boundaries. This course endeavors to create a collaborative learning environment in which personal experiences and oral traditions are respected.

Applications for enrollment to the Cherokee Humanities Course are available through the Cherokee Heritage Center’s Education Department. Deadline to receive applications is August 22. For more information call 918-456-6007 or send e-mail to: education@cherokeeheritage.org and visit the CHC web site.
