TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Lace up your running shoes. The 53rd annual Cherokee National Holiday 5K run will be held Saturday, September 3, on the east side of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, located three miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62.
“We always hope to draw the largest crowd ever,” said Sherry Parks, run coordinator. “This event also includes a one-mile fun run, so everyone can get involved.”
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the run will begin at 7:30 a.m. The pre-registration entry fee for the 5K and fun run is $15. Participants can pre-register through Monday, August 29th. Race day entry is $18. The Cherokee Nation will give the first 350 runners a choice of t-shirt for entering.
The Cherokee Nation will award trophies to the overall male and female finishers of the 5K run and Olympic-style medals on neck ribbons to the first three finishers in each age group.
The 5K Cherokee National Holiday run is a United States of America Track & Field (USATF) certified and sanctioned event and is part of the Cherokee National Holiday that is celebrated every year over Labor Day weekend. The theme of this year’s celebration is “The Great State of Sequoyah.” The annual Holiday commemorates the signing of the Cherokee National Constitution of September 6, 1839.
