Wright, of Tahlequah, has worked for the Cherokee Nation for 17 years and has served as both lieutenant and captain of the Marshal Service. She holds a bachelors degree from Northeastern State University and is federally trained and CLEET certified.
Wright says, for her, serving in law enforcement is a family tradition.
"My dad was in law enforcement and his grandfather was a jailer at the Cherokee jail," Wright said. "It’s in my family and I was always drawn to it and when I got the chance I jumped on it."
Wright plans to re-focus the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service to gear their efforts to law enforcement in the rural areas of the Cherokee Nation.
"We’ve always worked in the rural communities," Wright said. "I just want to do more for them, let them know that were here for them and be more visible."
Wright is the first female to serve as director of the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.
"I hope I do a good job and do these men proud," Wright said. "They are a good department and this should be easy because I have such good men working under me."
