TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation Head Start centers recently held their annual commencement exercises for the Head Start class of 2004.

"There were a total of 310 Head Start students leaving the program this year", said Norma Harvey, Cherokee Nation public education coordinator. "They will be transitioning into the Kindergarten programs within the public schools."
Principal Chief Chad Smith addressed family and friends of the Igali Head Start students during their commencement exercises which were held at the Cherokee Heritage Center in the Adam’s Corner Rural Village.
“I am glad that you all made it here today to celebrate our future,” Smith said. “These children will be our future leaders and it’s good that we celebrate these children at this time.”
Other special guests during the ceremonies were Brian Jackson, motivational speaker, and Raven Bruner, Miss Cherokee. Bruner read the names of the graduates while Smith handed out certificates.
After the ceremony, the guests went on a tour of the Ancient Village and the Cherokee Heritage Center Museum. After the tour, they were treated to lunch.
