"A few of the (Special Olympics) athletes were there and had a great time cheering everyone on", said Ashlie Ashmore, operations manager for the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.
The dip in cold water was part of the Del City Polar Bear Plunge, an annual event for Oklahoma law enforcement entities to come together and raise money for Special Olympics. Law enforcement officers and staff raised money by asking friends, family and co-workers to sponsor them in their dive into the frigid water. The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service won an award for raising the most money of any other law enforcement agency, raising a total of $3,441.21.
