CATOOSA, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Nation recently relocated their Career Services office in Catoosa. The new office is located at 101 West Denbo."This location provides more space for client assistance and is housed at a more convenient location", said Stephanie Sharp, Cherokee Nation Career Services manager. "The office has been established to help individuals develop, achieve and maintain work habits and skills that will promote employability and self-sufficiency for the participant and to assist them with finding employment."
Cherokee Nation Career Services can assist qualified applicants in many aspects of the employment process including GED testing, job searching, and training. The Cherokee Nation can also provide financial assistance for people who have located employment and need assistance to access that employment.
The Cherokee Nation is also accepting applications for the 2004 Supplemental Youth Employment Program (SYEP). This program is an eight-week summer program that begins June 1, and employees youths ages 14-21 to help them to gain hands-on-work experience.
To be eligible for SYEP, participants must meet the Department of Labor income guidelines, be a member of a federally recognized tribe and reside within the Cherokee Nation’s fourteen-county service area. Applicants between the ages of 16 and 21 are generally placed with a participating organization for employment while youth between the ages of 14 and 15 generally participate in basic skills training. All youth will receive minimum wage for their work. Applications may be filled out at the Cherokee Nation Career Services office in Catoosa or at the main office in Tahlequah.
