MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA - In the Muskogee Civic Center, packed with Sequoyah High School fans, the boys basketball team defeated Morris 63 to 33 to earn the Area III championship and another trip to the "Big House" to defend their title of reigning state champions. For the third year in a row, the team will head to Oklahoma City to play in the state basketball tournament."This (qualify for the state tournament) is really what we wanted to do", said Larry Grigg, SHS basketball coach. "Now we can relax and just play basketball."
"Win or lose, we're proud of what these athletes have done this season", said Tony Pivec, SHS superintendent. "Not only have they played great basketball, but they've represented us well across the state and across Indian Country."
Sequoyah will play Riverside Thursday, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City. The game will be broadcast locally on Tahlequah radio station KEOK-FM 101.7.
