TAHLEQUAH, OKLAHOMA - Auto enthusiasts are invited to start their engines and check out the classic wheels at the car show, part of the 52nd annual Cherokee National Holiday, on Saturday, September 4. The car show will be held on the east grounds of the Cherokee Nation complex, located 3 miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62.
Contestants, who pre-register for the car show before August 1, will pay an entry fee of $10. The fee increases to $15 after August 1. Registration for the car show begins at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 1 p.m., Saturday, September 4. The first 100 entries will receive a dash plaque and goody bag. First, second, and third place awards will be presented for each class. There are 44 category classes and special prizes will be given in 13 categories. There will be drawings for door prizes throughout the day.
“This is the third year of the car show,” said Justin Godwin, car show coordinator, “We have expanded the classes this year to include motorcycles. The car show committee wanted to get the kids involved, which resulted in the creation of a model car class and the Little Miss Car Show and Johnny Hotrod pageants. We hope to add different activities each year and hope to continue to beat our past attendances. The car show committee hopes to add more activities each year so that we can give a little something back to Tahlequah.”
A poker run and cruise has been added on Friday, September 3, on the Cherokee Nation Courthouse Square. Registration for the poker run is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be live music featuring the “Hired Gunns” from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. and a vehicle display around the square.
“Organizers expect more than 90,000 people to attend the 52nd Cherokee National Holiday.” Godwin said, “We’re hoping that the car show activities will add variety to the number of activities already offered.”

It has grown into one of the largest events in Oklahoma, attracting people from across the world. People see old friends and make new ones while enjoying the many activities the Holiday offers. This year’s theme, “The Spirit of the Trail,” celebrates the enduring spirit of the Cherokee people, past, present and future.
