Bruner, of Stilwell, will represent Cherokee Nation as a board member of the United National Indian Tribal Youth Council (UNITY). UNITY is an organization comprised of Native American youth representing tribes from across the nation. UNITY’s mission is to foster their spiritual, mental, physical and social development and to help build a strong, unified and self-reliant Native America through youth. The UNITY board has ten members. Each board member is elected to serve a one-year term. The board meetings are held through conference phone calls and Internet meetings.
“I’m glad I got re-elected,” Bruner said. “We started a lot of things last year that being elected to a second term will allow me to finish.”
Bruner currently serves as secretary of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Youth Council and is a 2003 graduate of Stilwell High School and a sophomore at Northeastern State University. She is currently working to establish a local UNITY chapter at Stilwell Middle School.
